The “5G Enabling Future Industries” Forum Activity & the Award for Winning Project of 2019 Zhongguancun 5G Innovative Application Competition was successfully held in Zhongguancun Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone on the morning of October 18th. It was co-sponsored by the Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park, Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology and Beijing Communication Administration Bureau and undertaken by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (hereinafter referred to as “CAICT”) This forum activity took the form of "achievement demonstration + theme presentations + round table dialogue", gathering international science and technology organizations, scientific research institutions, leading enterprises and other parties to jointly discuss the opportunities and space for the future development of 5G, and talk about the innovative elements injected into personal life and industry development in the era of 5G.

Xi Guohua, President of China Communications Standards Association, attended the forum and delivered a speech. Xi Guohua said, the sustainable and healthy development of 5G in the future needs the benign interaction of technology innovation, market cultivation and industrial ecology. Zhongguancun 5G Innovative Application Competition plays a good demonstration role in promoting the development of 5G application, and puts forward suggestions from the aspects of accelerating the network construction, promoting industrial application, developing new terminals, carrying out standard formulation and building a good ecological environment. Liu Hang, Deputy Inspector of Zhongguancun Administrative Commission introduced the overall situation of 5G Innovative Application Competition Liu Hang said that compared with last year's competition, this year's competition showed five features, including a wider range of fields, a wider scope of applicants, a higher level of project maturity, a stronger demonstration of competition events and a focus on financial connecting services. Zhongguancun Demonstration Zone will make efforts to optimize the business environment, improve service, and build a better industrial ecology in the park, so as to promote the landing and transformation of more 5G innovation achievements in the demonstration zone. Gu Jinxu, Chief Engineer of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology said, a number of new 5G characteristic application projects have been discovered and incubated in the this year’s competition, which will be set up in Zhongguancun Demonstration Zone and strongly support the construction of Beijing National Science and Technology Innovation Center. In the future, Beijing will further strengthen the promotion of 5G demonstration applications, and strive to lead the innovative development of the national 5G industry with them.

Leaders from the Beijing Municipal People's Government, China Communications Standards Association, Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park , Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology and Beijing Communication Administration Bureau jointly awarded the 2019 Zhongguancun 5G Innovative Application Competition certificates and trophies for 15 enterprises including China Mobile Research Institute, JinCheng International and Sumavision.

During the theme presentations, Gitanjali Sah, Senior expert in strategic planning department of ITU, Wu Hequan, Academician of China Engineering Academy, Pang Ce, General manager of strategic cooperation of GSMA Greater China Region, Zhang Tongxu, Dean of China Mobile Research Institute, Head of Network Solutions of Ericsson Market Area North East Asia, Cao Zejun, Head of China Strategic and Marketing Department of Huawei delivered theme presentations centering on the forum topic.

Gitanjali Sah said, ITU is committed to making communication networks accessible to everyone, improving existing networks and building the next generation of ICT infrastructure to enable timely access to information resources of jobs, health care, education, etc. Wu Hequan expressed that the integrative development of Internet of Things, cloud computing, AI and 5G not only gave birth to new form of industry, but also brought new risks such as privacy protection, information security and legal adaptability, which need to complete and cope with in terms of technology, management and legal institution during the development. Pang Ce showed that 5G will ignite the fourth industrial revolution. The key is ecological system and vertical industry and operators need more cooperation and investment.

At the end of the forum, attendees entered into dialogue centering on the topic of “5G enabling space and opportunities of future industry”, and had an intense exchange of ideas on the impact of 5G on global economic and social development, changes in personal life and industry development, challenges faced by 5G development and other hot issues.

The 2019 ZGC Forum took “Cutting-Edge Technology & Future Industries” as its annual theme, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the China Association for Science and Technology and the Beijing Municipal People's Government. “5G enabling future industries” is an important parallel forum of 2019 ZGC Forum, aimed at discussing the future development trend of 5G, negotiating ways to strengthen cooperation in 5G innovation and forming the highland of 5G innovation and development frontier ideas. About 200 leaders and experts from international science and technology organizations, state organs, research institutes, leading enterprises and other parties participated in the forum activity.
