The role of Amal Kasry, as the Chief of Section for Basic Science, Research Innovation and Engineering, includes designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating basic sciences and engineering programmes to meet UNESCO's goals in supporting scientific research and innovation in Member States. With a background in Materials Science and nano-Biotechnology, she has extensive international experience as an academic and scientist, working in various academic institutions, such as Max Planck Society (Germany), Cardiff University (UK), Austrian Institute of Technology (Austria), and the British University in Egypt (Egypt), and companies such as IBM in USA and Nitto Denko in Singapore. Additionally, she has authored numerous publications, book chapters, and patents while serving as a reviewer for scientific publishers and funding agencies.
