Li Can, a chair professor and director of Fundamental Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis, at Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He did post-doctoral work at Northwestern University, USA. He was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003, a member of the Academy of Science for Developing Countries (TWAS) in 2005, a foreign member of Academia European in 2008, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2008. His research interests span in-situ/operando spectroscopic studies on catalysts and catalytic reactions in energy conversion. He leads the ‘Liquid Sunshine Methanol Demonstration Project’ in China for large scale green methanol production via PV-water electrolysis-CO2 hydrogenation processes, which was certified as a powerful strategic route for realizing the goal of carbon emission peak and carbon neutrality. He is the president of the Catalysis Society of China, Dean of Materials and Chemical Science School of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Prestigious awards received include International Catalysis Awards, Japan Photochemistry Prize, Hong Kung “Qiu-Shi” Prize, National Catalysis Award of China, International Clean Energy Mission Innovation Champion, and First Class Prize in Technological Innovation from China Renewable Energy Society, etc.
